AKA 100

The modified, higher gain version of the Hybrid 100 combines the vintage vibe of a Plexi era amp and the gain structure of today's modern amps. The crunch channel of the AKA 100 is a tribute to the late great amp modder, Jose Arrendondo. His mods were so much more than just the tone of the times. Modern day amp builders continue to credit Jose to this day and weave some of his ideas into newer designs that combine the best of the old and new.

Classic Modern 100

As my original model (CM 50) Classic Modern 50 evolved and started getting some attention and a couple were sold, I started a few 100 watt chassis. The 100 watter started off exactly like my original model, but as I tried new things, I realized I could get more versatility overall by using the plate driven tone stack approach. The original 50's being cathode driven 3 gain stage primarily with one extra gain stage for the lead boost. The 100 watters follow a different power section scheme as well. Years of experiments have finally paid off with a power amp that has the perfect blend of both worlds; sag and aggressiveness. The new circuit has more gain and a slightly different, more open feel. As the counterpart to the AKA 100, The Classic Modern is the one that leans towards Modern.

Classic2

I love Ken Fischer's twisted versions of the classic circuits. I especially like modded versions of the Vox AC30 Top Boost. I've also become a fan of those dumble type circuits that hold a note forever. The one problem I had to overcome is the fact that I don't like the way low wattage amps break too quickly. I love the sound of KT66's put right on the edge of clipping. So, I took a twisted version of a Voc AC30 schematic, twisted and tweaked it even further and stuck it in front of a KT66 driven traditional power section.
